Examine text
Examining is for when you want to understand a selection rather than rewrite it. Refiner-AI reads your text and opens the result in its own window — your original stays exactly as it was.
Refine vs. Examine
| Refiner card | Examine card | |
|---|---|---|
| What it does | Rewrites your selected text | Reads it and produces a result |
| Where the result goes | Replaces the text in place | Opens in a separate window |
| Your original text | Changed | Untouched |
The four kinds of Examine
- Summarize — the gist of a long passage in a few points. Great for email threads, docs, or meeting notes.
- Translate — the selection in your content language (set in your profile).
- Explain — a plain-language explanation of what the text means. Handy for dense or technical writing.
- Custom — whatever you defined in the card’s instruction, e.g. define a term, extract dates, or list action items.
How to run one
- Select any text in any app.
- Press your shortcut (⌘O).
- In the floating menu, under Examine, click a card (each shows an icon for its type).
- The result opens in a window. Use its Copy button to grab the output — your source text is never modified.
